I’ve had Rocky Mountain College on my mind recently. For one thing I missed a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Institute for Peace Studies last week. It completely slipped my mind, although we did have a funeral of a long time member of the Church that afternoon. There was plenty of time after that to get to the meeting. The Administrator was not happy since she had to take minutes. I’d best not let that happen again. Then, on Monday of this week I saw in one of the funeral homes listing the name of the woman who was my first assistant in the office when I came to work at RMC in August of 1961. She worked the Admissions Office and was later moved to the Office of the President. She worked for at least 3 of our Presidents before taking retirement. Sylvia was an important part of the life of Rocky for many years. Yesterday the City Administrator of Billings finally announced her choice for Police Chief. It was Rich St. John who is a Rocky Grad, and one whom I have know quite well over the years since his graduation. It then occurred to me that the United States Marshall for Montana, Dwight McKay, is also a Rocky Grad, and one who I had in Psych class and have had occasional contact with since his graduation. Then, today in the entertainment section of the Billings Gazette a current student was highlighted as a country music singer who has been on the stage since she was 10 years old having won some kind of contest in Dickinson, ND. She is going to China this year for some sort of gathering. I am rather proud that I played a part in the education of two of our “finest”, and that Rocky is alive and well at this point in her history. As the words of the Alma Mater say:
“Rocky Mountain we all love you
Alma Mater of the West.”
