This has been an interesting week-end. I've spent an inordinate amount of time in front of the TV watching the loading and unloading of a casket and observing the scenery around DC and Grand Rapids, MI - and in listening to the eulogies for Jerry Ford by various dignitaries. As I have remarked to some friends, as much as I dislike Dick Cheney and Don Rumsfield I have gained a new appreciation of them as they delivered their remarks about their friend. And I have gained an appreciation of President Ford which I did not really have during the time he was in office. I have felt that Betty Ford has to be a very strong woman as she has seemed to bear up under the multiple services at the Rotunda, the National Cathedral and the final service today in Grand Rapids. But, then, I was myself married to a strong woman named Betty. And I have, of course, thought often of her these last few days. Actually, these services have had their own healing benefit.
And, of course, I've spent a lot of time this week-end watching professional and college football. West Virgina won, and the Fiesta game with Boise State was not to be missed. Those last second come-backs are what makes the game interesting.
