Thunderstorm

As I listened to the 10 o'clock news last night the weatherman talked about increased heat as we head into Summer and that there was the possibility of "scattered thunderstorms". I was to sleepy to stay up and watch some Letterman repeat or to listen to Jay Leno with some sleasy sexual innuendo about Hillary or Bill, or some grade school teacher having intercourse with a student. I went to bed. My mind was busy with some kind of dream material when I was literally shocked awake by a clap of thunder directly over head. At least it sounded "overhead". I got up to close the windows opened to cool things down for the next day. About the same time Pete got out of bed and we talked about the loudness of the thunder. After we had both gone back to bed there was some additional thundeer and ligtening, but it turned out pretty much as the weatherman had said - A Thunderstorm. When I got up this morning there was sparse evidence of there having been any rain. But - whooo - that one clap will be a long time in memory.

I really miss the good thunderstorms we got down south. I was afraid of them for a long time until a friend encouraged me to watch one and think of God. In that moment, I saw God in a new light and now I love thunderstorms.

I too like thunderstorms. We missed the storm last night but it is hot enough that if we get hit tonight, it will be a doozy. As much as I like storms, it is always in the back of my mind that the lightening could touch off a forest fire. With our spring rains, it might not be too bad this year.
