Final Chapter

Born October 15, 1924, in Huntington, WV. to Clarence Lee Taylor Sr and Lulu Belle Petit, James R. (Jim) Taylor died at age 85 in Billings, MT due to complications from heart disease on January 11, 2010 at 3:20 p.m.

He moved with his wife Betty many times before they arrived in Billings, Montana in August of 1961. Here they raised their seven children: Ken, Ann (Bill Greer), Jim--deceased 2006--(Cecilia), David (Suzanne), Willie (Karyn), Paul (Louise) and Pete.

Jim graduated from Marshall College in Huntington, W.Va., in 1947 with a Master of Arts in Psychology. He earned a Master of Divinity in 1959 from Andover Newton Theological Seminary in Andover, MA. He was married to Harriet E. (Betty) Clarkson in 1949. Jim was a member of the First Baptist Church serving in various capacities over the years including interim pastor on more than one occasion. Jim served, at various times, as Registrar, Associate Professor of Psychology, Academic Dean and Director/Summer Session at Rocky Mountain College where he was employed from 1961-1994. He was later awarded an honorary Doctor of Public Service in 1998 from the college. Over the years, Jim actively participated in and served on the boards of various local and national groups including the General Board of the American Baptist Churches, the Montana Associations of Churches, the Billings School Board, the Yellowstone County Democratic Central Committee, and the Billings Studio Theatre.

In addition to his living children, he is survived by 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and his sister Dorothy Ann (Ed), his brothers John (Jean) and Lee (Irene) as well as other extended family. Jim was welcomed into the Church Triumphant by his wife Betty, his son Jim, and his brothers Norman, Bill, and Don and other extended family back through the generations of the great cloud of witnesses.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Endowment Fund, the Jim and Betty Taylor Scholarship at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana, or to the charity of your choice.
