Are these the last days?

I had a visit with my personal physician yesterday. Lab work done Tuesday. Blood work is essentially positive. My cholesterol readings are good in line with 80 mg of Lipitor and 10 mg of zetia every day. Potassium is a bit high, but that result from 14 hours of fasting.

Toward the end of the visit the doc asked about living will, etc. He has a national form known as Comfort One. Agreement with this means that nothing extraordinary will be done if I have a heart attack including loss of function. Betty and I had signed living wills years ago indicating pretty much the same. These directives allow some intervention, but essentially express a Do Not Resuscitate option. I'm sure that this was operative in ICU when Betty contracted sepsis accompanying leukemia in Dec. 2005. Things were done to make her comfortable, and many of us were there when the heart gave its last beat.

I also got a form to apply for a handicap sticker. This will make it easier to find a parking place at stores like Costco, Wal Mart, etc. At time I've had to park a long way from the entrances. I'm sure it will be a big help when I want to attend an event at The Metra - Billings' sports and Fair venue.

As Dr.Gerstner said, this isn't to imply that something will happen soon, and I'll see you in six months.

Be sure to use that sticker when it comes. You'll probably get out more knowing that you won't have to walk so far. And I'm sure the doctor will still be seeing you years from now.

It is wise to prepare. As Christians our whole life should be a preparation for the next. May the Lord have mercy no matter what days these are.
